Job Description: |
1. Job Purpose
The Female Social Mobilizer is responsible for community outreach and mobilization among women and girls in the targeted areas. She will lead the formation and capacity-building of female Committees, organize awareness campaigns on hygiene, sanitation, environment, and climate action, and support the implementation of women-inclusive environmental interventions such as plantation drives, drainage cleaning, and solid waste management, where appropriate. Her work ensures that women's voices and needs are reflected in the project and that gender equality is integrated throughout.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Mobilization and Women’s Committee Strengthening
- Engage female community members in the revitalization of WASH Committees and their transformation into Camp-Based Committees.
- Support selection of active, respected female community members for committee roles ensuring inclusiveness and representation.
- Facilitate training sessions for female committee members on community engagement, record keeping, sustainable development, and women’s leadership.
- Encourage committee participation in household hygiene monitoring and feedback mechanisms.
B. Hygiene and Environmental Awareness Campaigns
- Organize and deliver gender-sensitive awareness sessions for women and adolescent girls on:
- Hygiene promotion (handwashing, menstrual hygiene, water handling)
- Household and community sanitation
- Solid waste segregation, composting, and zero-waste practices
- Climate-friendly behaviours (plantation, clean energy use)
- Ensure use of culturally appropriate tools (posters, visuals, local language facilitation).
C. Facilitation of Women’s Participation in Environmental Interventions
- Mobilize female participants for cash-for-work activities such as:
- Lifting and disposal of solid waste
- Levelling and greening of waste disposal sites
- Plantation and environmental beautification of public spaces
- Orient female workers on safety, hygiene, and environmental safeguards during work.
D. Support to WASH and Climate Resilience Activities
- Encourage women’s involvement in cleanliness campaigns, chlorination drives, and water safety practices.
- Facilitate awareness on proper water storage, hygiene promotion, and household-level water conservation.
- Engage women in maintaining drainage and sanitation in and around homes and communal spaces, where appropriate.
E. Community Linkages
- Promote women’s leadership and meaningful participation in community decision-making around WASH and climate action.
- Assist in organizing consultations with local authorities (RVA/WSSP/TMAs) to share community feedback from women.
F. Data Collection & Reporting
- Maintain attendance, beneficiary registration, and feedback records from female participants.
- Provide weekly reports to the Field Coordinator on progress, challenges, and case stories.
- Support the Monitoring team during household surveys or participatory assessments involving women.
3. Safeguarding & Code of Conduct
The Female Social Mobilizer must uphold organizational policies on safeguarding, child protection, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA). She will ensure safe, respectful, and inclusive engagement with all community members, particularly women, children, and marginalized individuals.
4. Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with sensitivity to cultural norms and gender dynamics.
- Fluent in Pashto and Urdu (spoken); familiarity with Afghan dialects will be an asset.
- Basic understanding of hygiene promotion, climate resilience, and women’s protection issues.
- Organized, empathetic, and proactive in problem-solving.
- Ability to document field activities and maintain records.
